While the streets sleep...

I love home births. Especially ones that happen at night. It's like magic. Or like a really big secret that selects few participators and leaves the rest to sleep. The streets are always so quiet and have an eeriness about them, but we know the secret. There's a miracle happening in the quiet dark, a baby's first cry. Ahhh, I love it. Welcome to the world, sweet baby Josh. :)

Hello Blog,

Like I promised, I'm here...paying attention to you :) I made it through the Holidays! Unfortunately, my favorite pairs of shoes didn't...

Yes, that would be Penny looking so innocent and guilt ridden in the background. Dang, she's cute. I hate that! And love it.....sigh.

How bout all that snow we got here in good ol' Texas? We LOVED playing with our nieces and nephew in the snow, some of who were seeing it for the first time! As you can see, I kinda failed at the whole snowball fight thing. So did my hair...apparently....can anyone say ware wolf?Cutest kids ever...

Dad Duckett packing his killer snowball. Love him. Oh, and I held my annual Battleship victorious title against him. Just had to throw that out there.

We had a blast rolling around in the snow until our hands hurt so bad we were crying. The puppies, however...weren't fans. After I attacked her with a snowball, they wouldn't come out of the bushes. So stinkin' cute...

Other than the favorite shoes, some nerves in our fingers and our puppies' innocence, everything else is in tact and movin' along with the new year!

I'm making the transition to full time photographer (enter cheers and party jigs here!) which means meeting with business consultants and accountants and thanking sweet baby Jesus that He didn't call me to be a business consultant or accountant. Holy Updates, Batman!

Dear Blog,

I know I haven't been around much recently. I'm sure you've heard from the website and Facebook fan page that it's...well...just you. It's probably hard to see all the action being posted on the other sites while you sit here empty and ignored. I'm here to say I'm sorry. I mean, I'm not a huge fan of how your "large" photos are actually really small and how it takes forever to get them uploaded, but that's not really your fault. So...to make it up to you, I'm going to spend the next good chunk of my life uploading fifteen handfuls of photos to you. Four updates in one. Yeah, that's right. Four. So, here we go...

This couple was so precious together as they welcomed their baby boy into the world. After baby A was born, they just kept thanking each other. Made me cry. But I guess I cry at almost every birth I photograph! Whatever, you would too! :)

A few days later I returned to get my camera back on Baby A. He's so irresistible! He was pretty stubborn and wanted to be awake for the party, but after pulling some tricks out of my sleeve he gave in. This one makes me giggle every time I see it. It's like he's saying "uggh lady, are we done yet?"

I'm so excited to be with this next couple! They've welcomed me on board for the whole journey, so keep your eye out for birth and newborn photos, as well. Can't wait to meet Baby G!

This precious little girl slept like a dream for most of her session! And her family made it such a fun experience! Her momma, daddy and grandma were so willing to be extra hands and help me...and...drumroll....they made me some coffee. WINNERS!!! Love them :)

This first time momma showed up to the birth center complete and pushing! I was afraid I was going to miss it. That's just not allowed in my book! Luckily baby Nathan waited to make his debut until his full paparazzi team was ready :) His mom worked hard to see him and what a cutie he is!!

Meet Meagan. She is the closest thing to a sister I've ever had. We grew together. We traveled together. We lived together. We went from dressing up cats to decorating dorm rooms to planning our futures all in just a blink of an eye it seems. And now, she's graduating college! This girl is so smart its ridiculous. She used to write my papers in high school. Don't tell my teachers. She inspires me. She challenges me. She teaches me. Constantly. Remember her name, because you will hear it again one day. Probably when she becomes President or something ;) LOVE HER....

I spent Saturday morning with this precious family! These boys were SO awesome to work with! We were totally done with the session in just 45 minutes! That's record time, people. I didn't even have to pull out the jelly beans ;)

Oh.My.Word. This momma...let me tell you. She is one of the strongest, most focused and determine women I've ever seen! Baby T made her momma work hard and for a very, very long time, but this woman labored her tail off and never gave up. It was ah-mazing. I still feel so honored that I was able to be a part of such a worshipful birth. Thank you Jesus for this new little family!

I got to spend Saturday morning with this sweet family! We'd been trying to get something scheduled since about August, and we finally made it together! The middle girl, S, was my little helper. She helped me turn my camera on. She helped me get my settings all right and she even helped me make baby L smile! These guys were so great to be with!

These are two of my favorite people in the world. Meghan and I have walked through a lot of life together and I have prayed, prayed, prayed for a man who loves and serves her and can attack adventures with her! I am so grateful for Chris who takes care of my best friend better than anybody I know :) We had so much fun running around town, climbing on top of buildings, hanging from bridge rafters and laughing 'til we cried. (and we didn't get kicked out of anywhere!) What a great shoot!

And they're so gorgeous I just COULDN'T narrow it down! Ah!

On my way to dinner with my hubby to celebrate our 1st anniversary, I got a call that L's water had broken and she was having some contractions. Typically, first time mom's aren't really known for going quickly. I figured I'd be called sometime during the night or the next morning.

Towards the end of dinner I called her midwife to get an update. She was at 4cm. As soon as we got home her midwife called and said "Come now. She's pushing" I changed from dress to jeans in record time and flew out the door. Man, do I have such a great husband who is so flexible and supportive of me leaving at the drop of a hat (on our anniversary, nonetheless!)! I live about 20 minutes away, and by the time I got there little Kayden had already made her way out. L went from 4cm to complete and pushing in about an hour and a half! (Jesus? Did you see that? I'll take one of those....just sayin'...) So, this marks my first birth to ever have missed, but I am so proud of L and her hubby for making it through! Oh, and did I mention that Kayden surprised us all by coming 15 days early? Teeny tiny baby girl came out wide awake and a whopping 5lbs and 14oz.

I so enjoyed watching this momma's support team. They were awesome. She worked her booty off and did fantastic! With everyone crammed in the bathroom, at one point I was actually in their stand up shower taking photos through the glass! Welcome baby Cale! It's about time I had a little boy on this blog!

Well she sure makes cute babies! Baby Bridget made her way into the world on her due date: Labor Day! The first go around for these photos we had a fussy baby, so we tried, tried again the next day and she cooperated beautifully! She is SO cute!!

My sister in law (hubby's brother's wife) has been waddling around overdue just waaaiiiting for this cute little boy to make his debut! When it started raining and storming yesterday, we just knew that would evacuate his bottom outta' there! And it worked! She had a GREAT birth at the birthing center and I spent my morning stealing newborn kisses in between shutter snaps. He's just scrumptious. Don't you agree?

This new little family was great at just being themselves, loving on each other and letting me catch it on camera. And just a fun little tidbit: This new momma lived with me for a few months before she was engaged to this new daddy. This man was determined to propose to her one night but didn't have a car. So, he waited til the next day, took a bus, asked for a ride, w.a.l.k.e.d., yes, walked from Arlington to Fort Worth just to ask this woman to be his bride. Precious? I think so. Now here they are with their scrumptious little girl....

The determination that this woman has is utterly amazing! I enjoyed being a part of the process and watching her sweet husband take every step with her! She worked so hard and sacrificed so much to get her little guy here and as stubborn as he was, baby R finally arrived to meet us all.

Anytime I'm over I pull out my camera, so Eliza's newborn shots have been done in segments, here and there, and whenever she decides to let me mess with her while she's sleeping. Chunky Monkey Love

Aaron, Morgan, my husband and I all four started as friends. Aaron and Morgan got married first, and then we followed suit a year later! It's been so crazy to go from single kids hanging out at Starbucks to all the ups and downs of marriage to now...our first baby! It seems like we've been waiting forever to kiss on this little face. I still cannot see these photos without tears a'flowin. Also--just to brag on my sweet friend--Morgan delivered all TEN pounds of Eliza, all natural (no drugs!), with her little hand up around her head (adding on about an inch of width to deliver) AND Eliza's head was coming crooked. Morgan's midwife (aka my mom) said normally a first time mom would not have been able to do that, especially without tearing. But Morgan did. She was extremely focused and so very peaceful, as you will see in the photos. There were many, many moments of praising Jesus for answering our cries over and over again. I cannot express how proud I am of her and how much I LOVE this little girl!

My Intentions

There are some of you who have found your way to my blog site from a referral. For this, I am so grateful and hope you enjoy what you see. However, I feel that there is an issue that must be addressed. My photography business has been built on passion. Am I trying to make a living off it? Absolutely. But trace it back to the beginning and you'll find passion. There are photographers that I work and socialize with in the area that I am positive feel the same way.

Recently I've learned that a client of mine is very upset with the service she received from one of my fellow birth photographers, Lynsey Stone. I say "fellow", but in all reality she has been doing this much longer than me, is more experienced than me and I would almost consider her more of a mentor than a peer. The reasons for the upset are none of my business and I intend to keep it that way, but because I have been referred in place of her, I feel the need to diffuse any spirit of competitiveness and state my intentions.

By all means, if a client is upset or feels they have been wronged I encourage respectful and honest communication and would hope that things could be worked out in a calm and decent manner. In my experience, Lynsey is an honest wife, mother and photographer who is very talented and has worked hard to build one of the most successful businesses as a birth photographer in the DFW area. While my personal experiences with this client have all been positive as well, I will not be involved in or support any conflict that does not directly involve me.

Story behind this photo...Phoebe has had the little blue lamb since she was a baby. She thought her little brother would need one of his own, so she got him the little blue bear. Sweet!
